Auburn football honoring all-time great teams this season

In this story:
The Auburn football program has an extra special 2023 season in store for the faithful and loyal fanbase to whom they proudly play for, by paying special honors and respect to three of the All-Time greatest teams the program has produced over the years. This homage will be shown during three important games this upcoming 2023 season where the staff, players, students, and fans alike will be able to pay their respects to these amazing teams and their incredible accomplishments.
The first team to be given such honors is Pat Dye’s 1983 Tigers and homage will be paid to this team during the Georgia game on September 30th at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Pat Dye was in his third year as Head Coach of the Auburn football program and beginning to catch his stride as a formidable force on the grid iron. This team was led by one of the most prolific players to ever grace the plains the one and only Bo Jackson.
Coach Dye and the Tigers put together a historic performance in 1983 garnering the program its first ever 11-win season. The Tigers strung together a streak of ten wins after suffering a single loss to the University of Texas in the beginning of the season to include beating Alabama in Birmingham and clinching a Sugar Bowl win against mighty Michigan to cap off a remarkable year.
The second team to be given such honors is Terry Bowden’s 1993 Tigers and homage will be paid to this team during the Ole Miss game on October 21st at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Terry Bowden was in his first season as the Head Coach of the Auburn football program and proved himself quickly to be the best man for the job.
Coach Bowden and his 1993 Tigers came into the season unranked and presumably no threat for National Championship contention, however Coach Bowden and his Tigers had the drive to prove otherwise. Coach Bowden led the Tigers that year to Auburn’s first ever undefeated season managing a landmark win against the No.4 Florida Gators on October 16th. This 11-0 season was the beginning of an incredible 20 game winning streak, the likes the Tigers have yet to repeat.
The third and final team this season to be given such honors is Gus Malzahn’s 2013 Tigers and homage will be paid to this team during the Iron Bowl against Alabama on November 25th at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Coach Malzahn and his 2013 Tigers managed to put together one of the greatest program turnarounds in college football history during his inaugural season as Head Coach.
The 2013 team led by Coach Malzahn flipped the proverbial script from an abysmal 3-9 season in 2012 to an incredible 12-2 season in 2013 garnering an SEC Championship win against Missouri along the way. The 2013 Tigers set multiple records that year to include the single season record in rushing yards putting up 4,596-yards on the ground. This amounted to another single season record in rushing scores that year producing 48 touchdowns. This incredible season began Coach Malzahn’s 7-year tenure as Head Coach for the Auburn football program.
These three matchups will hold much more than the heated rivalries typically produced, these games will provide the perfect opportunity for the Auburn family to pay proper respects to these great teams that have and will continue to be the backdrop of such an incredible football tradition that takes hold of the loveliest village on the plains.
For those who happen to be in attendance during these games be sure to recognize the historical moment you are witnessing as it will be one that will help drive the Auburn tradition of excellence for years and years to come War Eagle.
