Hugh Freeze Shows Appreciation Towards Auburn Faithful, Looking Forward to Iron Bowl Crowd

Auburn's fans are understandably disappointed following the loss to New Mexico State.

The Tigers (6-5, 3-5 SEC) are entering the Iron Bowl clash with Alabama now "in a fog" as Hugh Freeze described it on Monday morning. It was a bewildering loss, one that wasn't a fluke or a last-second upset. It was a manhandling of an SEC school that had won three straight games.

Freeze was asked what he would say to Auburn fans after the loss to NMSU looking forward to the Iron Bowl.

He expects the team to give the best effort they can against Alabama, and he's appreciative of the fans who give their best effort every week.

"The Auburn faithful, they have persevered through a lot of things, and they show up. I’ve already apologized a hundred times for the effort we did not give them Saturday," Freeze said. "This is not the first program in year one to have some tough losses like this. I could go down the list and mention some, but you probably know them better than I. We’re in a rebuild. That’s not an excuse for what happened Saturday. But we expect to give you the best of ourselves come Saturday in the Iron Bowl, and so we appreciate all the times you give us your best, and I know Saturday will be no different for them."

Auburn finishes up the 2023 regular season at home this Saturday, November 25th, against Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm CT on CBS.
