Former Auburn DB waived by New Orleans Saints

Another Tiger has been waived in the NFL.

Former Auburn Tiger Smoke Monday has been waived by the New Orleans Saints, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.

According to Saints Wire of USA Today, Monday played the sixth-most defensive snaps this preseason on the Saints, giving him plenty of opportunities to make the roster. However, in this span of time, he only had one pressure, five tackles (on six attempts), and allowed two out of four targets he faced to be received.

Saints Wire also notes that Monday could be in position to return to the practice squad.

Monday, an UDFA signing with the Saints last season, missed the entire year with a torn ACL.

There were questions about Monday's ability in pass coverage during his time at Auburn, but he was a really strong asset when he was closer to the line of scrimmage.

Monday ran a 4.52 40-time at the NFL Scouting Combine, had a broad jump of 124 inches, and a seven-second 3-cone drill.

In four seasons with the Tigers, Smoke recorded 171 career tackles, 17 TFL, 6.0 sacks, and five interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns.

Earlier this week former Auburn WR Anthony Schwartz, a blazing track star and NFL receiver, was waived from the Cleveland Browns, per Adam Schefter. Schwartz was waived alongside CB Caleb Biggers, LB Cam Bright, TE Miller Forristall, TE Thomas Greaney, CB Gavin Heslop, T Derrick Kelly II, S Nate Meadors, and WR Jalen Wayne. According to Schefter, the waiver for Schwartz was an "injury designation."
