NCAA Freshmen Rankings: Baylor's Keyonte George No. 7

George figures to have immediate impact as a freshman next season on one of the nation's best teams

The Baylor Bears were already fixing have one of the nation's top backcourts next season despite major overhaul on coach Scott Drew's roster.

Sharpshooter Adam Flagler announced he'd be coming back for his senior season on May 25 and talented guards LJ Cryer and Langston Love are both set to return from injury.

But with Keyonte George, the Bears also have one of the best young freshman guards in the country, making Baylor a team to be feared once again headed into the 2022-23 season.

NCAA.com revealed its list Monday of the 12-best freshmen ready to contribute on potential tournament-bound teams next season. Making the cut amongst an elite group of first-year players was the 6-4 George, who came in at No. 7 on the list.

Here's what the ranking had to say:

The Bears need another scoring guard to join the pair of Adam Flagler and LJ Cryer after the departures of Matthew Mayer and James Akinjo. George can step in and have an immediate impact.

George was also named a Sports Illustrated First-Team All-American in April. Here's why SI included him on such a prestige list:

George was second in scoring in the most grueling league in the country, the NIBC, averaging 16.9 points a game on a team stocked full of SI99 stars. He recorded the NIBC’s first 40-point game against La Lumiere and averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists at GEICO Nationals. Often times, George put the Ascenders on his back and willed them to wins, including two over GEICO Nationals champs Montverde Academy.

For George, the future is certainly bright. The combo guard is an explosive athlete that uses great technique and awareness is every aspect of his game. He's an aggressive player that can get downhill in hurry, and he's shown that he's more than capable of hitting tough contested jumpers in the lane or behind the arc.

George has all the physical tools to take a big leap at the next level. He'll be a tough matchup for the Big 12 conference in Waco for the foreseeable future - and that's if he chooses to maintain his collegiate eligibility past his freshman season.
