Baylor’s Grant Miller on Offensive Outbursts: ‘Touchdowns are Forever’

Baylor Bears offensive lineman Grant Miller talks touchdowns, Richard Reese, upcoming showdown with Oklahoma Sooners

When asked about the Bears recent surging success when it comes to the offense clicking on all cylinders, Baylor offensive lineman Grant Miller didn’t hold back his true feelings.

Especially in terms of the team’s continued growth as an offensive unit.

“It feels really good to keep on scoring touchdowns,” Miller said. “Like we say in football, touchdowns are forever. You can never take those back, so we never take one for granted.

“To just kind of up our run efficiency, kind of impose our will, especially as an offensive lineman, that’s what you love to see week in and week out. No matter what the score is, we’re never satisfied. We’re always looking to put more on top of what we’ve already got.”

So how about running back Richard Reese’s breakout season as a budding star for a Baylor offense intent on proving it can still have a highly successful 2022 campaign?

“I think he just has a real natural feel of the game as well as he’s not afraid to put his shoulder down and fight for extra yards,” Miller said. “Just kind of the mentality, and I think all of our running backs kind of have that.

“You know it really makes us want to go out there, win the line of scrimmage and fight for every extra yard. I mean, if the guys in the backfield are willing to do that, then especially as one of the big guys up front, it makes you want to do that as well.”

Through film review this week in preparation for the Sooners, Miller believes Oklahoma’s offense will come out firing away from the get-go.

“Oklahoma really isn’t afraid to run anything,” Miller said. “I mean, they’ll really throw everything but the kitchen sink at you; twists on the line of scrimmage, a lot of blitzes, even a lot of safety trails, safety is getting in the mix in terms of their front seven.

“They’re going to move a lot, have a lot of moving pieces up front, as well as they play physical. They’ve got a lot of twitchy guys up front who can pass rush really well, so I think you can really expect to see almost anything from Oklahoma so you’ve got to prepare for a lot of different things when you’re playing their front.”
