Baylor Offense Clicks Early in First Half at Iowa State

In this story:
The Baylor Bears made the trip to Ames to take on the Iowa State Cyclones, hoping to get their Big 12 title defense off to a good start.
And through the first 30 minutes, they are exactly where they want to be, leading the Cyclones 17-14 heading into the locker room at halftime.
A late score in the second quarter by Iowa State cut into Baylor's 10-point lead to trim the lead to just three at the break as the Bears lead the Cyclones 17-14 at halftime.
Baylor looked very efficient early on, scoring on the opening three drives to take a 17-7 lead before being forced to punt away and give Iowa State good field position with 3:39 remaining in the first half of play.
And that was all it took to fire up the Cyclones' offense enough to push for a late score before the first half rolled to a close.
Baylor began the first drive of the game by marching down the field and scoring to take an early 7-0 lead, with the Cyclones being flagged twice for penalties on the drive and the Bears converting on two fourth-down attempts.
Iowa State answered by scoring on the team's opening drive as well, driving down the field to deadlock the game at 7-7.
The Bears started their second drive from their own 26 yard line, driving down the field and into the red zone before being stopped on third and goal and settling for a 24-yard field goal to give Baylor a 10-7 lead.
After Iowa State was forced to punt away on the Cyclones' ensuing drive, Baylor again marched down the field -- highlighted by a huge 36-yard catch by Galvin Holmes -- en route to another touchdown and a 17-7 Baylor lead.
Both teams traded punts before Iowa State's final drive of the first half led to points and a 17-14 halftime score.
