Baylor Holds Edge Over No. 23 Texas at Halftime

The Bears offense has been inconsistent in the first half vs. Texas, but still holds the lead

AUSTIN - The Baylor Bears entered their matchup with the No. 23 ranked Texas Longhorns looking to rebound after a tough loss to the No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs last week.

And despite a sloppy offensive performance, they still have the edge, leading the Longhorns 19-17 heading into the locker room at halftime.

Blake Shapen's inconsistencies under center have been a major factor in those struggles for the Bears, but nevertheless, he has persevered, completing 12 of 20 passes for 153 yards and two scores.

Shapen's first score came was thrown a wide-open Jaylen Ellis for a 47-yard score in the first quarter, with the second coming right at the end of the first half to put the Bears on top.

As a team, the Bears amassed 224 yards of total offense, including 47 yards on 12 carries from freshman running back, Richard Reese.

Luckily for the Bears, the defense has been able to make enough plays on the explosive Texas offense to keep the Horns in check including forcing a safety from Longhorns quarterback, Quinn Ewers.

They have also held the Longhorns to just 138 yards of offense in the first half, as well as just 29 yards on seven carries for All-American running back Bijan Robinson.

Texas will receive the football to start the second half.
