Game Log: No. 23 Texas Longhorns Takes Out Baylor Bears
The Baylor Bears travel down to Austin to take on the No. 23 Texas Longhorns in the regular season finale, with the Bears trying to preserve a winning record going into bowl season and Texas trying to sneak its way into the Big 12 championship game.
The Bears come into the game losers of two in a row, both at home. After a humiliating 31-3 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats, Baylor took No. 4 TCU right to the brink, as the Horned Frogs nailed a field goal at the horn to win, 29-28. The Longhorns also fell to TCU two weeks ago, but bounced back with a win over the Kansas Jayhawks last Saturday.
Question marks have surrounded Bears quarterback Blake Shapen and his effectiveness, although the sophomore turned out a decent performance against the Horned Frogs, throwing for 269 yards with a touchdown and a pick. Shapen, though, has caught the turnover bug this year, with three fumbles and nine interceptions to pair against 14 touchdown passes.
Coincidentally, Shapen's numbers aren't that far off from Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers'. The two have thrown for the same amount of touchdowns and Shapen has thrown for 800 more yards. Both have missed time this year, with Ewers having only played eight games and Shapen playing 10.
The Bears won last year's matchup, 31-24, in Waco. Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson looks to exact some revenge against the Baylor front seven who held him to just 43 yards on 17 carries in the 2021 game.
