After Win at Kansas, BYU Jumps Up to a Five Seed in Lunardi's Latest Projection

On Wednesday, ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi updated his NCAA Tournament projections. BYU, coming off a a signature road win over no. 7 Kansas, improved from a seven-seed to a five-seed. In Lunardi's rankings, BYU is the third team in the five seed line behind Illinois and Clemson. Illinois is hosting Minnesota on Wednesday night.
It's also worth noting that BYU has three wins over teams that are projected to be top-four seeds: Iowa State (2), Kansas (3), Baylor (3), and San Diego State (4).

Getting a five-seed or better is critical for BYU if they want to have the opportunity to play their NCAA tournament games in Salt Lake City. Every game from here on out is critical. If BYU can finish 10-8 in conference play, they would have a good chance to be a five-seed in the NCAA tournament. After Tuesday's win at Kansas, BYU is 8-7 in conference play. If BYU holds serve at home, they will be 10-8 in conference play and in the top half of the conference standings going into the conference tournament.
BYU's next game is at home against TCU. This is a bit of a trap game. The Cougars are coming off their best performance of the season, but TCU is a dangerous team that will be in the NCAA Tournament.
BYU in the Polls
On Monday, BYU dropped out of the AP poll for the first time since November. BYU was the first team receiving votes. That, however, was before BYU's win at Kansas. If BYU takes care of business against TCU on Saturday, they will definitely be in the top 25 again next week.
