The first round of the 2023 NFL Draft is in the books. There are 17 former BYU players in the NFL, and there were multiple picks in the first round that will impact those former Cougars in the pros. Here are a few takeaways on the first round and its impact on BYU players in the NFL.

Tyler Allgeier - Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons shocked the NFL world when they selected Texas running back Bijan Robinson with the 8th overall pick. As a rookie last season, Tyler Allgeier rushed for over 1,000 yards and broke the Falcons' rookie single-season rushing record. Allgeier's performance made him the seemingly obvious candidate to be the running back of the future in Atlanta. Instead, he will share reps and likely play a secondary role behind Robinson.

Dax Milne - Washington Commanders

Former BYU wide receiver Dax Milne was on the Commanders' roster last season, but he was not a starter. When Washington was on the clock with the 15th pick, no wide receiver had been picked, meaning the Commanders had the opportunity to pick any of the top wide receivers in the draft. Instead, Washington picked Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. That pick increased Milne's odds of making the roster again in 2023.

Brady Christensen - Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers selected quarterback Bryce Young with the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Former BYU offensive tackle Brady Christensen was a starter along the offensive line for the Panthers last year, and he is projected to be a starter once again in 2023. Christensen will be one of five tasked with protecting the Panthers' top asset in Bryce Young.
