Where BYU NFL Draft Hopefuls Rank Among Best Available Players

Multiple former Cougars rank among the top five best available players at their positions

The first round of the NFL Draft is in the books. The second and third rounds of the NFL Draft will be broadcast on Friday night, and at least one former BYU player could come off the board on day two. Here is a breakdown of where BYU's NFL Draft hopefuls rank among the best available players ahead of day two.

Blake Freeland - OT

BYU vs Utah State Blake Freeland

The first round saw five offensive tackles drafted. Heading into round two, BYU's Blake Freeland ranks fifth among best offensive tackles available according to ESPN. Freeland turned heads and broke records at last month's NFL Combine. After putting his athleticism on display, Freeland was projected to be drafted anywhere from the second round to the fourth round.

Jaren Hall - QB

Three of the first four picks in the draft were quarterbacks, but no quarterback was selected outside of the top five. The primary storyline of the first round involved former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis. Levis, who was projected to go as high as no. 2 overall, slid out of the first round. Since Levis is still available, other mid-round quarterbacks like BYU's Jaren Hall could be impacted. ESPN ranks Hall as the fourth best quarterback available behind Will Levis, Hendon Hooker, and Jake Haener.

Before the draft, Hall interviewed with every NFL team, but four teams were especially interested in Hall according to PFN: the Minnesota Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks, the Detroit Lions, and the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts selected Florida's Anthony Richardson at no. four, making it unlikely that they take another quarterback in the next few rounds. The Vikings, Seahawks, and Lions could still be in the market for a mid-round quarterback. That's where Levis' slide could impact Hall.

Puka Nacua - WR

Four wide receivers were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. If he hears his name called, BYU's Puka Nacua will likely be a late-round selection. According to ESPN, Nacua ranks 32nd among best wide receivers still available.
