BYU-Kansas Will Feature a Battle of Two Brothers

BYU wide receiver Darius Lassiter comes from a Kansas football family. His Dad, the late Kwamie Lassiter, played football at Kansas before playing in the NFL. His older brother, Kwamie II, played receiver at Kansas and is now in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals. His brother Kwinton currently plays defensive back at Kansas. When BYU and Kansas square off this Saturday, the two brothers will be on opposite sidelines and Darius will don a different shade of blue.
“This game means a lot to me," Darius told the media on Monday. "Me and my brother always dreamed of either playing together or playing against each other, and we get to do that this weekend in the matchup at Kansas. Having this opportunity in BYU’s first Big 12 game is a blessing.”
Not only will Darius and Kwinton be on opposite teams, they could go head-to-head in the game. Darius starts at wide receiver for BYU. Kwinton starts at cornerback for Kansas.
“We talked about the possibility of going against each other the day I signed at BYU," Darius said. "If we do get that matchup this weekend, I know I will get the best out of him and he will get the best out of me on the field. Regardless of being brothers, we will both go out there and represent our teams, so we will both put in work.”
Through three games this year, Darius has been one of BYU's most productive wide receivers. Lassiter has tallied 9 receptions for 116 yards and 1 touchdown.
Kwinton has been one of the best players on the Kansas defense. He already has two interceptions this season, including the game-sealing interception against Illinois. He also has a forced fumble.
The two brothers have faced off hundreds of times before - but never on a stage this big. BYU and Kansas, both undefeated, will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Both Kansas and BYU are trying to make noise in the Big 12 this season. For BYU, the road game at Kansas represents the first conference game in the Big 12 era.
The battle of the two brothers will be one of the top storylines to follow this week and it will be an unforgettable day for the Lassiter family.
“I just know my dad is smiling up there," Darius said. "This game is something he always wanted to see happen, and we finally get that opportunity, so it will be a big day for the family. No matter what the score is or the outcome of the game, our dad just wants us to go out there and play our hearts out with no regrets.
