BYU Linebacker Naseri Danielson to Enter the Transfer Portal

On Monday, BYU linebacker Naseri Danielson announced his plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on Tuesday. Danielson came to BYU as a walk-on in 2023 as a late addition to the recruiting class. He played both wide receiver and safety for St. Mary's High School in Stockton, California, but he ended up at linebacker during his brief time at BYU. He used his redshirt season in 2023, so he will have four years of eligibility remaining at his next school.

Danielson did not appear in any games for BYU last season. He is one of five BYU players that have announced their plans to enter the transfer portal - none of the five were expected to be contributors for BYU in 2024:

  1. Nick Billoups - Quarterback
  2. Zion Allen - Cornerback
  3. Jordan Kapisi - Kicker
  4. Benjamin Ward - Offensive Line
  5. Naseri Danielson - Linebacker

Danielson was rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and he racked up competing scholarship offers from from Army, Navy, and Nevada among others early in the process. Danielson had been recruited by various PAC-12 schools throughout his recruitment, but BYU was able swoop in at the final hour and land Danielson's services as a walk-on.

BYU's recruitment of Danielson was short and sweet. After coming to Provo for a visit in January of 2023, Danielson received a PWO offer from the Cougars and the rest was history.

BYU returns a lot of experience at linebacker. He will likely transfer to a school where there is a clearer path to playing time.
