The first week of BYU's 2023 Fall camp is in the books. On Saturday, BYU wrapped up its fifth practice of the week at the Student Athlete Building. After practice, BYU released highlights from the first week of camp and multiple newcomers stood out. BYU welcomed nearly 60 newcomers on the 2023 roster and if early signs are any indication, many of them will play key roles for the Cougars this season.

Starting quarterback Kedon Slovis was featured throwing multiple touchdowns including one to fellow newcomer Keelan Marion (1:43 of the video). Marion, a transfer from UConn, created some space downfield and Slovis hit him in stride for the score. Slovis also made great throws to Mason Fakahua and new returned missionary Koa Eldredge.

Speaking of transfer wide receivers, Eastern Michigan transfer Darius Lassiter was highlighted in the one-on-one portion after he beat projected starter Jakob Robinson for the score (1:16).

Colorado transfer Deion Smith was featured scoring a touchdown in the team portion of practice (0:55). Smith led the Buffaloes in rushing last season.

New BYU running back Aidan Robbins flashed his receiving potential with a one-handed grab (1:36). Robbins also scored a touchdown in the video clip.

JUCO transfer Jake Retzlaff found the soft spot in the defense with a nice throw to Isaac Rex. Retzlaff is competing for the backup quarterback job.

It wasn't only the offensive newcomers that were featured in the video. Defensive newcomers like Eddie Heckard and Marcus McKenzie broke up passes, and Utah State transfer Crew Wakley intercepted a pass from Cade Fennegan. Heckard broke up a would-be touchdown intended for Chase Roberts.

Boise State transfer Isaiah Bagnah and Utah State transfer AJ Vongphachanh were also featured making plays in the backfield.

BYU kicks off the 2023 season in four weeks against Sam Houston.
