BYU to Honor 30 Players Before Senior Day Against Oklahoma

The Cougars will honor a long list of upperclassmen before their game against Oklahoma

Before BYU takes on Oklahoma on Saturday, 30 players will be recognized on Senior Day. 15 of those 30 players are in their final season of eligibility:

Another 15 are being honored that could move on from the program after this season:

  15. Kingsley Suamataia OL

BYU could look very different in the trenches after this season. Of the 30 players being honored, 12 of them are offensive and defensive lineman. Four of BYU's five starting offensive lineman are being honored, meaning there's a scenario where Weylin Lapuaho is BYU's only returning starter from the offensive line next season.

BYU's defensive line is in the same situation. Starting defensive ends Tyler Batty and Isaiah Bagnah are being honored. Interior defensive linemen Jackson Cravens and Atunaisa Mahe will graduate - Cravens and Mahe have started most games for BYU this season.

Of the nine starting positions at the line of scrimmage, BYU could have eight new starters next season. Recruiting the high school ranks and the transfer portal for linemen will be a top priority during the offseason.

The Last Time BYU Played Oklahoma

It's been nearly 15 years since the Cougars last played the Sooners. BYU played Oklahoma in the 2009 season opener - it was the first game played in the new stadium of the Dallas Cowboys. The Sooners were ranked no. 3 in the country and returned reigning Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford. Bradford left the game with a broken collarbone and BYU scored a late touchdown to pull out the 14-13 victory.

BYU and Oklahoma also played in each other in a bowl game in 1994. BYU dominated the Sooners 31-6 in that game.
