BYU WR Darius Lassiter Will Return for One More Season

Lassiter

On Monday, BYU starting wide receiver Darius Lassiter announced that he will return to BYU for his final season of eligibility. Lassiter always intended to return for one more year, but he needed a waiver from the NCAA for one final year of eligibility. Lassiter was honored on Senior Day as one of the players with no eligibility remaining. It appears his waiver has been granted, so he has one more year to play for BYU.

Lassiter was one of BYU's starting wide receivers and best deep threats last year. He started the first eight games and had emerged as one of BYU's top two wide receivers before he suffered an injury against Texas that sidelined him for games against Iowa State and West Virginia. He finished the season with 365 receiving yards on 29 receptions and he had 4 receiving touchdowns.

Lassiter transferred to BYU after Spring Camp from Eastern Michigan. Even though he didn't have the benefit of participating in the Spring, Lassiter emerged as a day-one starter for the Cougars. Getting Lassiter back for one more year is a big boost to the 2024 wide receiver room. Lassiter was the best wide receiver on the roster at making contested catches. He was on pace over 500 receiving yards before he suffered the injury.

He is part of a wide receiver unit that returns all major contributors in 2024. BYU has more questions than answers at quarterback right now, but the wide receiver group should be good enough to help whichever quarterback wins the starting job.

BYU kicks off Spring Camp 10 days from today.
