SP+ Predicts BYU at Arkansas

BYU is 2-0 and preparing for a road test at Arkansas in week three. Arkansas is also 2-0 and coming off a 28-6 win over Kent State. This game will be a rematch of a 2022 contest played in Lavell Edwards Stadium. In that game, Arkansas pulled away in the second half and outscored BYU 52-35. Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson threw a career-high five touchdowns that afternoon.

The game will be the first true test for both teams. BYU, with a new defensive staff, will put its new and improved defense to the test against one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Arkansas' defense will face its first test of the season after ranking near the bottom of the country in total defense in 2022. SP+, a predictive algorithm created by ESPN's Bill Connelly, cemented its prediction for BYU-Arkansas on Sunday.

SP+ gives BYU a 27% chance to pull off the upset and beat Arkansas with an expected final score of 33-22 in favor of the Razorbacks.

The SP+ prediction is in line with the betting line. When the betting line opened on Sunday, Arkansas was favored by 10.5 points. SP+ is higher on BYU's chances than the ESPN FPI algorithm. FPI gives BYU just a 21% chance to beat the Razorbacks.
