SP+ Predicts BYU vs Southern Utah

BYU is 1-0 and preparing for the second game of a two-game home stand against Southern Utah. Southern Utah is coming off a narrow 24-21 loss to Arizona State in week one. SP+, a predictive algorithm created by ESPN's Bill Connelly, cemented its prediction for BYU-Southern Utah on Tuesday.
SP+ gives BYU a 94% chance to beat Southern Utah with an expected final score of 39-12.
All eyes will be on the BYU offense on Saturday. The Cougars are coming off a disappointing 14-point offensive performance against Sam Houston State. BYU fans across the country are anxiously waiting to see if the offense can bounce back on Saturday. A 40-point performance would go a long ways towards resolving those concerns.
A lot of BYU's problems were self-inflicted against the Bearkats. Five of BYU's drives were stalled by penalties.
- Drive 1: Touchdown
- Drive 2: Illegal block in the back brings back first down screen to Deion Smith
- Drive 3: Incomplete to Keelan Marion on fourth down
- Drive 4: Illegal touching & block in the back
- Drive 5: Pass to Kingston short of the sticks
- Drive 6: Three and out
- Drive 7: Delay of game turns 3rd & 5 to 3rd & 10
- Drive 8: Illegal use of hands penalty
- Drive 9: Holding puts BYU in 1st & 18
- Drive 10: Touchdown
- Drive 11: Running out the clock, no penalties
- Drive 12: Running out the clock, no penalties
- Drive 13: Running out the clock, no penalties
First things first, BYU needs to clean up the mistakes against Southern Utah.
