BYU Target Kinilau Fonohema Names Top Three and Sets Decision Date

BYU priority target Kinilau Fonohema named his top three schools and is nearing his college decision. Fonohema named his top three schools on Tuesday and BYU made the cut alongside Utah and Oregon State.
Fonohema, who took an official visit to BYU last weekend, will announce his college decision on signing day. Fonohema has already taken an official visit to Oregon State and he has an official visit to Utah on deck.
BYU is on a mission to bolster its defensive line in the 2024 class and Fonohema is an important part of those plans. Fonohema has great length at 6'5 and he has a long wingspan - his length and wrestling background helps him get leverage at the line of scrimmage.
Fonohema just wrapped up a successful senior campaign for Springville High School. He tallied 12 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, 80 tackles, and 4 forced fumbles.
Historically speaking, Springville High School hasn't necessarily been a recruiting hotbed. Over the last few years, however, the Red Devils have developed multiple D1 prospects. BYU has established a mini Springville pipeline during that time. In 2022, quarterback Ryder Burton signed with the Cougars. Fonohema's running mate alongside the defensive line is BYU commit Dallin Johnson. Johnson, an interior defensive lineman, committed to BYU clear back in 2021. A handful of Springville players have also committed to play for BYU as preferred walk-ons.
The Cougars would do very well to add Fonohema to that pipeline.
