Four-Star Defensive End Devoux Tuataga Commits to BYU

BYU has added a major piece to its 2024 recruiting class. Cedar Valley High School's Devoux Tuataga committed to the Cougars on Thursday over fellow finalists USC, Utah, Oregon State, and Tennessee. He also received competing offers from the likes of Oregon, Nebraska, Arizona and Washington during his recruitment. Tuataga is a four-star defensive end per Rivals.
Tuataga is one of the most gifted athletes in the state. He is listed at 6'6 and 240 pounds and he can jump out of the building. Tuataga is a dangerous edge rusher with good speed, the strength to bull rush, and the ability to disrupt in the run game. He consistently makes plays when things break down thanks to his effort. He also stars as a volleyball player - that's where he developed his vertical jumping ability. Devoux uses his jumping ability to get his hands in passing lanes - you can see an example on the first play of his highlights.
After a standout junior season, Tuataga burst onto the recruiting scene. Utah was the first school to offer on January 17, 2023. BYU quickly followed with an offer on January 19, 2023. In the proceeding weeks, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, Cal, and USC among others extended Tuataga offers as well.
Tuataga has been a priority recruit for the BYU defensive staff since they arrived on campus in December. With Tuataga in the fold, the Cougars have two verbal commitments from two of the state's best edge rushers in Siosefa Brown and Devoux Tuataga. They also have a commitment from Adney Reid - Reid is an edge prospect currently living in Australia while his parents serve as mission presidents. Reid picked BYU over a competing offer from Utah.

Brown, Tuataga, and Reid have the potential to be a dynamic duo coming off the edge for the Cougars in the future. Tuataga is the 12th player to commit to BYU as part of the 2024 recruiting class. He joins Ryner Swanson, Therrian Alexander, Adney Reid, Noah Lugo, Enoch Watson, Siosefa Brown, Jonathan Kabeya, Thomas Prassas, Jett Nelson, Dallin Johnson, and Carson Sue'esu'e.
