Max Homa's Birthday Efforts on Wife's Behalf Earn Him PGA Tour Husband of Year Crown

The former Cal golfer gives wife Lacey an impromptu birthday party after Sunday's final round of the Masters

Max Homa didn’t leave Augusta National as Masters champion on Sunday, but Golf Digest has bestowed a different title on the former Cal star: PGA Tour husband of the year.

After finishing in a tie for third place at the 88th Masters with fellow Cal alum Collin Morikawa, Homa snapped into action to give his wife, Lacey, an impromptu birthday party back at their tournament dwelling.

Lacey Homa shared her appreciation on social media, writing, “My birthday is on Tuesday, but I’m not able to go to Hilton Head this upcoming week with Max. Since we won’t be together, he baked me cinnamon rolls and went to Walmart to find me roses and a silly decor. He’s a keeper.”

Golf Digest celebrated Max’s effort under the heading, “This week in public displays of affection.”

“After coming close to winning his first major, Max Homa, still wearing his Sunday golf clothes, gave his wife the perfect birthday celebration,” the website wrote. “Well played, Max. He may not have won the green jacket, but we’re giving him the title of PGA Tour husband of the year.”

Homa certainly could afford to go all-out after pocketing a $1,040,000 paycheck after the Masters.

He, Morikawa and Byeong Hun An, a third former Cal player, will all be at Hilton Head Island this week for the $20 million RBC Heritage at Harbor Town Golf Links.

Homa and Tommy Fleetwood will tee off Thursday at 7:50 a.m. PDT, Morikawa and Xander Schauffele get started at 10:50 a.m., after An and Cameron Davis begin at 6:50 a.m.

Homa’s highest-ever finish at the Masters elevated him from No. 11 to No. 9 in this week’s updated official world rankings. Morikawa jumped seven spots to from No. 20 to 13 while An climbed from No. 44 to 38.
