The Good, Bad, And Ugly From Cincinnati’s Loss To No.5 Houston

The Bearcats came up short against the #5 Houston Cougars. Here is the good, bad, and ugly

TUNNEL HILL — The Bearcats lost a close matchup 67-62 at home against No. 5 Houston Cougars. It was a battle all the way through and the fans witnessed a great matchup. Here are the good, bad, and ugly from today's game in front of the biggest Fifth Third Arena crowd since the renovation in 2018.

The Good: The Bearcats' competitiveness showed as they put up a legit fight all game long. Cincinnati continues to fight in Big 12 play with no losses by more than five points thanks to a strong defense. Another good would be the overall performance that John Newman III (10 points, 10 rebounds) posted a double-double in the game.

The Bad: The turnover battle was very crucial as the Bearcats had four more turnovers on the day than the Cougars, proving vital in Houston's success. The rebounds were also a major issue as the Cougars had seven more total rebounds (41-34), which played a huge factor in the end for the Cougars (22-14 lead in second-chance points).

The Ugly: The past few performances from Viktor Lakhin have been very uncharacteristic as the former leading scorer has struggled a fair amount since returning from sickness. The big man went 0-of-4 from the field and 0-of-3 from the 3-point line while posting a -15 plus/minus.

The Bearcats now turn their focus to the midweek home game against No. 14 Iowa State.
