Wes Miller Dives Into His Theory Behind Why The NCAA is Refusing to Deem Aziz Bandaogo, Jamille Reynolds Eligible

Cincinnati has played its first three games without two of its top three front court players.

CINCINNATI — UC head men's basketball coach Wes Miller gave further comments about the transfer waiver saga for Aziz Bandaogo and Jamille Reynolds that's still holding both players out of games as Week 2 of the regular season begins.

Miller believes the NCAA is trying to restrict two-time transfers at all costs if a player hasn't graduated.

"It's been extremely hard on them, but it's been extremely hard on our entire program," Miller said on Tuesday. "I really believe that what's happening here is that the NCAA is trying to make a statement to college basketball, college football, that you cannot transfer two times if you haven't graduated. I think that's what's happening here. I have zero problem with that being a rule. I'd support that, my issue is the way that we're doing it."

Reynolds's situation is murkier than Bandaogo's as he awaits news on his waiver appeal. The latter has the Morningstar Law Group working behind him to help ensure eligibility for the rest of the 2023-24 season after having his appeal denied.

Either way, Cincinnati could be a sure-fire NCAA tournament team with what the young backcourt's showed thus far, but that's all hypothetical at the moment.

"I'm all for finding some way to restrict transfers," Miller continued. "I think that would help all of our jobs, but not at all costs and not at the cost of our own players. It's like anything in life if there's something that you guys think would be good. And you say it'd be good if we did that as a society or it'd be good if we put that into law. Yeah, that's great, but at any cost? No, we don't operate like that. Like we don't do things at any cost. We do things the right way."
