Former Cincinnati Mayor Jerry Springer Joining 'College GameDay' Broadcast

Springer was Mayor of Cincinnati for one year in the 1970s.

An icon in Cincinnati's history is joining this weekend's College Gameday broadcast on the University of Cincinnati campus.

Cincinnati's WLWT is reporting that Jerry Springer is joining Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, and Lee Corso sometime during the three-hour show.

Springer was a Cincinnati City Council member from 1971-74 before resigning due to a sex scandal in Northern Kentucky. Although, voters couldn't shake Springer—re-electing him to City Council just a year later.

Springer most famously served as Cincinnati's 56th mayor for one year starting in Jan. 1977. It's not shocking to see WLWT get the scoop on the Springer news as he worked there after his mayoral stint. Springer was WLWT's political analyst after his time in office and that role grew into a full-time anchor position at the station.

Springer and Norma Rashid were No. 1 in the ratings for five years, the same position UC Football is chasing in the College Football Playoff rankings.

The 77-year-old is known for hosting 'The Jerry Springer Show' for 28 seasons (1991-2018). It aired on NBC and The CW.
