Clemson Baseball Wins Second Straight ACC Series

Tigers beat the Notre Dame Irish Sunday to take the series win

It had been a rough go in Atlantic Coast Conference play for the Clemson Tigers to start this season. Beginning with a record of just 2-7 against their first 3 opponents the Tigers knew there needed to be a change in momentum quickly in order for this season to have a chance to be looked on positively when it's over. That shift appears to have happened as they took on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and rallied after dropping the first game to take 2 of 3 and win the series.

Detractors of the program may have been hesitant to give credit for the series victory over Florida State last week due to their record being well below .500. However, Notre Dame was 17-13 coming into this matchup and when you throw a cross-conference victory over SEC rival Georgia, also with a winning record, in the middle of these two series the results start to speak a lot better about where coach Erik Bakich has his team right now.

Clemson took two out of three against Notre Dame to win their second-straight ACC series.

The series-clinching victory was a back-and-forth affair where both sides held the lead at various points and were tied after another Notre Dame rally heading into the bottom of the 7th. That's when Billy Amick stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch 2-out double that brought in Will Taylor for the go-ahead run. The Tigers would add another insurance run to make it 6-4 and that would be all that was needed as the bullpen finished off the final two innings with no runs allowed and Clemson fans went home happy.

Coach Bakich told reporters after the game, "Pitching, defense, timely hitting that's the recipe. That's the recipe for championship baseball. That's the recipe for postseason baseball. So, very happy and pleased that we're playing better in those areas because that's what it's gonna take. We've been playing better, it feels like it and we need to keep it up because we've got a lot of work to do still."
