Dabo Swinney Comments on Trenton Simpson's Abilities
One of the biggest movers in this year’s run-up to the NFL Draft has been Clemson’s Trenton Simspon. He put on a show at the NFL Combine and then seemingly one-upped himself at Clemson’s Pro Day. At 230+ pounds, Simpson’s numbers are outstanding. 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, 40.5-inch vertical, and 25 reps on the bench press all point to elite athleticism. Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney was asked about Simpson’s Pro Day.
“That’s what we’d all like to look like in underwear, wouldn’t we?” joked Swinney. “That dude, he’s special. He wasn’t even going to jump and a scout talked him into jumping and told him “you’re welcome” when it was over. I mean, he jumped like 40.5”
During his time at Clemson, Simpson tallied 187 tackles. He was third on the team in 2022 with 77 tackles. For the most part, Simpson has played as an off-ball outside linebacker but has shown the ability to play multiple positions. His size and speed will intrigue plenty of NFL teams, and his attitude, according to Swinney, will fit in anywhere.
“He’s fast, he’s strong, and a great, great human being. He’s just an awesome kid. It makes your heart smile every time you’re around him.”
