Colorado Buffaloes take on Florida State in Sunshine Slam Championship

The Buffs grind out a tough win over Richmond

The Buffs were definitely challenged by Richmond in the opening game of the 2023 Sunshine Slam.

KJ Simpson led the way with 23 points Tristan da Silva added 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Earlier in the day, Tad Boyle’s squad found out they jumped seven spots in the AP Poll. With the latest jump, they are now ranked #18.

“I tell our team in practice all the time that teams that win close games down the stretch get stops and make free throws,” said Boyle.

Despite leading most of the game, this was in no way an easy victory. For much of the second half, Richmond trailed by three points or less.

“We needed that. We needed to face a little adversity……our guys showed a lot of grit and toughness on a night we weren’t as good offensively as we’ve been,” said Boyle.

The Buffs face Florida State in the championship game today at 4 p.m. ET.
