Colorado (18-9, 9-7 Pac-12) is coming off a dominant win against the Utah Utes on Saturday. The Buffs had four players in double figures with KJ Simpson’s 28 points leading the way. J’Vonne Hadley had a near double-double finishing with 20 points and nine rebounds. Cal (13-5, 9-8 Pac-12) comes to Boulder looking for their fourth straight win, as they beat Oregon 69-64 on Saturday. The Bears had two players in double figures with Jaylon Tyson dropping 27 and Jalen Cone adding 15.

The Buffs win against the Utes improved CU’s home record to 14-1 on the season. Now the Buffs look for revenge after blowing a 20-point lead that left them falling 82-78 to California in Berkeley. Eddie Lampkin Jr. had a double-double in the loss, scoring 22 points and bringing down 11 rebounds. But it was not enough to slow down Tyson, who once again led the Bears with a career high 30 points.

Colorado could be without star freshman Cody Williams (ankle) as well as Julian Hammond III (knee) who are battling injuries. The good news for CU is that the CU Events Center has been a house of horrors for the Bears. Cal is 2-14 all-time in Boulder with their last win coming nearly a decade ago.

Tyson has been huge for Cal, scoring 20 or more sixteen times this season. He has averaged 20.1 points per game and ranks second in the Pac-12 (29th, nationally). Just as good on the boards with seven per game (5th, Pac-12). Fardaws Aimaq is averaging a double-double on the season for the Bears. His 11.3 rebounds leads the conference and puts him fifth in the nation. He’s also contributing 14.7 points per game for the Bears. It’s a great one-two punch and they’ve found their rhythm here late in the season.

Simpson is right behind Tyson in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game. The Buffs standout was just named Pac-12 Player of the Week and looks for more national attention. With the possible absence of Williams, Tristan Da Silva will look to have a big game for CU. Da Silva is second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. The senior has scored 20 or more five times on the season and this matchup will give him a good chance to hit the 20-point mark once again. The great thing about both Simpson and da Silva is that they’re dangerous from every spot on the floor. And if you foul them, they both shoot over 82 percent from the line.

The CU Events Center has been a stronghold for the Buffs on the season. This game will be huge for NCAA tournament hopes on Wednesday night. They could see their record improve to 15-1 at home and make a statement before the Pac-12 tournament. Tad Boyle will have his team ready to go and I am sure he had the last meeting between these two on a video loop to motivate his team. Cal is playing their best basketball of the season, The Bears would love nothing more than to sweep the season series and spoil the fun in Boulder.
