Colorado likely to play Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium in 2024, per reports

The 'Prime Effect' could be coming to an NFL Stadium next year

The Colorado Buffaloes have a scheduled road game at Kansas next year and there's a chance it will be played at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium.

University of Kansas' leadership team has become concerned "construction work at their campus stadium will make true home games infeasible," according to a report by KUSports.com.

The discussion are in the preliminary stages with Arrowhead officials about hosting KU home games in 2024. However, no agreement has been reached at this time. The hope is construction will be completed at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

“It always would be our preference to do it on campus,” KU Chancellor Douglas Girod told the Journal-World on Wednesday

But Girod said KU leaders have been receiving concerning information from their building contractor about how a full home football season at Memorial Stadium could significantly delay completion of a $448 million renovation of the stadium, which is underway.

“We are in the process of going through the construction timeline with (the contractor) to see what is feasible for us to finish on time, meaning that in fall of ’25, we have to be in that stadium,” Girod said.

Lawrence is about 50 miles west from Kansas City. A scheduled move to Arrowhead would add another 29K seats for the game, which could be a sellout due to the 'Prime Effect'.

The home for the Kansas City Chiefs was the site of the Big 12 championship game in the 2000s. Colorado suffered a 42-3 loss vs. Oklahoma at Arrowhead in 2004.

Deion Sanders and Colorado will face Kansas for the first time in Big 12 play next year. The Hall-of-Famer played at Arrowhead twice in his career with the last time happened thirty years ago as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
