Darian Hagan is leaving Boulder to join Sean Lewis at San Diego State, per reports on Tuesday morning.

Hagan had the longest tenure of any coach at CU after being hired by Mike MacIntyre in 2016. The former Buffs QB also had a previous stint with the program from 2006-10. In all, Hagan worked for a total of seven different coaches during his time in Boulder — Gary Barnett, Dan Hawkins, Jon Embree, Mike McIntyre, Mel Tucker, Karl Dorrell and Deion Sanders.

Hagan was an option quarterback for the Buffaloes from 1988 to 1991, leading the team to their lone national championship in 1990 under Bill McCartney. He was inducted into the CU Sports hall of Fame in 2002.

Hagan was the only coach retained by Sanders a year ago. He became an ambassador for CU and now will be back on the field with under Lewis. He's the fifth member of Prime's staff to exit the program over the past two weeks. The southern California native will be closer to his original home after spending a fair amount of his career in Boulder.

Sanders will look to restock the Buffs roster and half of his staff in the process. It's going to be a make-or-break offseason for CU's future in the next few months.

Fellow Hall-of-Famer Warren Sapp will likely come on board to replace Bill O'Boyle, who also exited to SDSU. Pat Shurmur will also stay on as Buffs offensive coordinator, according to Coach Prime.
