Coach K on the freshmen class: "They’re going to develop a little bit more like freshmen develop"

Krzyzewski says freshmen aren't like last year's but that doesn't mean they'll be worse

Coach Mike Krzyzewski said that he his freshmen don’t have much separation between them on the court.

“One hasn’t broken away from the others,” he said, while meeting with the media at ACC Operation Basketball in Charlotte on Tuesday. “I think we’re going to be a team like that. They’re going to develop a little bit more like freshmen develop. It’s what it is. You make whatever you have a good thing. As a coach, you have to adapt. As an administrator, you have to adapt to what’s going on.”

“I like my group,” he added. “Instead of saying, ‘They’re not like them (last year’s team). They aren’t. That doesn’t mean they can’t be as good or better.”

Krzyzewski also talked more about his thoughts on non-conference scheduling.

“We’ve got to be careful we don’t just produce conference (rivalries),” he said. “That’s why I’d like personally not to have the (midseason) tournaments.”

Krzyzewski had said earlier he wanted to do away with exempt games in tournaments and just let teams schedule those games with whoever they see fit.

“We would schedule in Chicago, L.A. We would create content,” he said. “That would be, I think, interesting and good for the game. There would still be tournaments, because some teams would want them, but wouldn’t it be cool to see what other people would do? We’re talking about new choices for players. I’d like to have those for coaches in scheduling. I’m not going to be doing this that much longer. The stuff I’m talking about won’t happen (for him) but for good of the game.”
