Duke Basketball Adds Dangerous Opponent to Schedule

The 2023-24 Duke basketball non-conference slate is almost complete.

Hofstra will be in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Dec. 12 to take on the second batch of Blue Devils under the command of Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer. On Thursday afternoon, the visitor's official Twitter account announced the matchup, the first ever between the programs.

In two seasons as Pride head coach, former four-year Hofstra star and long-time NBA journeyman point guard Speedy Claxton has compiled a 46-21 overall record. That includes a 25-10 mark last season with a 16-2 conference campaign, tying Charleston atop the CAA standings.

Sure, the school lost CAA Player of the Year Aaron Estrada to Alabama via the transfer portal.

However, Claxton welcomes back second-leading scorer Tyler Thomas for the potent shooting guard's fifth year of college. He's a volume 3-point shooter who knocked 40.5 percent of his attempts from deep last go-round.

And Hofstra has two more returning starters from last season in rising senior wing Darlinstone Dubar and junior point guard Jaquan Carlos.

No, this isn't a high-major foe for the potential preseason No. 1 Duke Blue Devils, who return four starters and add a quartet of five-star recruits while looking to build on last season's 27-9 record and ACC Tournament crown.

Even so, Hofstra is no cupcake. Furthermore, remember that the meeting will likely be Duke basketball's last outing before the fall exam break.

Here's an updated list of every confirmed opponent on the 2023-24 Duke basketball schedule thus far.
