As predicted here at Blue Devil Country last week, Duke basketball is No. 2 in the preseason AP Top 25, which came out on Monday afternoon. The squad above the Blue Devils is fellow blueblood Kansas.

Purdue, Michigan State, and Marquette round out the top five. Meanwhile, No. 13 Miami and No. 19 UNC join the Blue Devils as the three ACC programs with a ranking by their name this go-round.

This marks the 16th straight year that Duke has started in the top 10.

The Blue Devils, in Year 2 with former four-year Duke basketball guard and longtime assistant Jon Scheyer as head coach, jumped 10 spots from where they ranked in last season's final poll.

They return eight scholarship players from a 2022-23 squad that won 27 games, highlighted by the three victories in Greensboro on its way to the ACC Tournament title.

Scheyer's second roster features reigning ACC Rookie of the Year Kyle Filipowski, along with three other returning starters in Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, and Mark Mitchell, not to mention grad center Ryan Young.

And the Blue Devils add four five-star rookies into the fold: TJ Power, Caleb Foster, Jared McCain, and Sean Stewart.

Their regular season begins with a Nov. 6 home game against Dartmouth. Four days later, No. 12 Arizona comes to Durham for a highly anticipated showdown.

First, Duke basketball will hold its annual Countdown to Craziness celebration, an official introduction to the 2023-24 Blue Devils in Cameron Indoor Stadium, on Friday night before hosting UNC Pembroke for their lone exhibition tune-up on Nov. 1.
