Duke Basketball: JJ Redick's Son Beats NBA Player in 3-Point Contest

A Duke basketball offer should be on hold for any of JJ Redick's offspring.

Josh Hart is a 28-year-old wing for the New York Knicks who shot 37.2 percent from downtown this season. Knox Redick is the 8-year-old eldest son of former Duke basketball sharpshooting legend JJ Redick, and chances are he's only a year or two removed from first being able to get the ball to the rim on 3-point attempts.

But as JJ Redick shared on Sunday evening to The Old Man & the Three Twitter account, Knox Redick challenged Hart to a 3-point contest a few weeks ago — two shots apiece from five spots around the arc — and emerged victorious.

Granted, the kid's attempts came from the same distance as the 3-point line in his dad's college days, while Hart had to shoot from NBA range, except at the corners. Even so, the youngster's performance was impressive, finishing 4-for-10 with one more make than Hart in the end.

Although some might say Hart let him win, the above video shows Hart using his standard form yet simply bricking one too many to keep pace with Redick's son.

Wait until Knox Redick becomes strong enough to shoot the deep ball minus the heaving motion. Considering he already dares to challenge a proven NBA 3-point weapon, it seems safe to say he enjoys the game and competition.

And there's no doubt he has the right dad for a shooting instructor.

JJ Redick, who shot 41.5 percent from three across his 15 seasons in the NBA, finished his Duke basketball career as the program's all-time leading scorer (2,769 points) and with what was at the time the most 3-point makes (457) in NCAA history.
