Duke basketball reveals starters against visiting Virginia Tech

The Duke basketball starting lineup might not change for the rest of the season. At least that's the implication from first-year head coach Jon Scheyer's consistency of late in this regard.

As the unranked Blue Devils (20-8, 11-6 ACC) seek to avenge their Jan. 23 loss at Virginia Tech when they host the unranked Hokies (16-12, 6-11 ACC) in Cameron Indoor Stadium at 8 p.m. ET Saturday (ESPN), it looks like Scheyer will employ the same five starters as in the team's past eight outings.

Here's that starting five, which the official Duke basketball stats broadcast revealed ahead of tipoff:

Junior guard Jeremy Roach
Freshman guard Tyrese Proctor
Freshman forward Mark Mitchell
Freshman forward Kyle Filipowski
Freshman center Dereck Lively II

Duke is 13-3 this season with the above combination of starters.

Although some folks may find it odd that former five-star recruit Dariq Whitehead is not part of the bunch, it's worth noting that he has excelled as one of the first few weapons off the bench. Furthermore, it's not as if any current starters warrant a "demotion" to a reserve role; no, each has taken admirable strides in recent weeks.

Next up on the Duke basketball slate following the Virginia Tech game is another home bout — another chance to avenge a January road loss — against NC State at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday (ESPN).

Then the Blue Devils cap off their regular season when they travel eight miles down Tobacco Road to face archrival UNC in Chapel Hill next Saturday night.
