Here Are the Most and Least Productive Duke Lineups Against Kansas

If there was any question that Duke is still a work in progress this year, consider this fact:

Duke used 20 different lineups in its opening game win over Kansas. The Blue Devils also used a total of 33 lineups during their two exhibition games. Only four lineups coach Mike Krzyzewski trotted onto the Madison Square Garden floor on Tuesday were ones that he’d looked at in the preseason.

For the record, the repeat lineups were:

O’Connell-DeLaurier-Hurt-Jones-Stanley: The lineup outscored Northwest Missouri State by seven, the most productive lineup in the opening exhibition. It was the second worst lineup against Kansas, getting outscored 8-4 in 1:50 of playing time.

O’Connell-DeLaurier-Jones-Moore-White: The lineup played Fort Valley State to a 4-4 tie in the second exhibition. It tied for the third-worst lineup on Tuesday, getting outscored 3-0 in 1:49 against Kansas.

Carey-Goldwire-Hurt-Jones-Stanley: The starting lineup against Fort Valley State was Duke’s best preseason lineup, with a 28-4 edge. It also started against Kansas but was outscored 13-12 in 6:23 of playing time.

Carey-Hurt-Jones-Moore-Stanley: It was together just a short time against Fort Valley, with both teams going scoreless. It was the worst lineup against Kansas, getting outscored 7-0 in 1:12.

Looking at lineups that scored more than three points (i.e. scored on more than one possession), the lineups that scored fastest were:

O’Connell-Carey-Hurt-Jones-Stanley: a point every 22 seconds

Carey-Goldwire-Jones-Stanley-White: a point every 23.5 seconds

O’Connell-Carey-DeLaurier-Goldwire-Jones: A point every 24.1 seconds.

Slowest scoring lineups were:

DeLaurier-Jones-Moore-Stanley-White: A point every 41.5 seconds

Carey-Goldwire-Hurt-Jones-Stanley: A point every 31.9 seconds
