Hunter Dickinson has Duke in four finalists

Four-star center Hunter Dickinson has cut his list of schools to a final four, and Duke is one of the candidates to land the 7-foot-2 class of 2020 big man.

The Blue Devils are on Dickinson’s list of finalists, along with Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida State.

Eliminated from Dickinson’s previous list of seven, released in July, are Purdue, Providence and North Carolina.

The Tar Heels landed big man Walker Kessler last month, which had a major impact on Dickinson’s recruitment. In addition to all but eliminating the Tar Heels from consideration, Kessler’s decision caused Duke, who had been considered a favorite to land him, to change directions.

Duke extended an offer to Dickinson a week after Kessler’s decision. Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke staff visited him two days later.

Dickinson told StockRisers.com, “When Coach K calls you have to pick up the phone. He’s an all time legendary coach and to play under him would be incredible. I like how I’d come in and have a chance to play a lot right away.”

The Blue Devils still have some ground to make up with the big man, however. He has already taken official visits to the other three finalists.

Dickinson used a junior year official visit on Notre Dame, 13 months ago. He’ll likely also visit the Irish again this year. He also visited Michigan and Florida State last month. There is no visit to Duke on the schedule yet.

Duke will lose seniors Javin DeLaurier and Jack White after this season, and freshman center Vernon Carey Jr. is likely to leave for the NBA Draft as well, making post players a priority for coach K. Duke received a commitment from 6-foot-6 forward Henry Coleman last week. The five-star is currently the biggest player in the Blue Devils’ four-man recruiting class.
