Duke freshman Vernon Carey Jr. was named to the 20-player watchlist for the 2020 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The list was determined by a national committee of top college basketball personnel.

Carey is the third Blue Devil named to the watch list, for a total of four times in the six-year history of the award. Jahlil Okafor was named in 2014-15, and Marques Bolden was named in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

A Blue Devil has never won the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award.

Carey is one of three ACC centers on the list, joined by Louisville’s Steven Enoch and North Carolina’s Armando Bacot.

Carey is one of four freshmen on the list, joined by Bacot, Memphis’ James Wiseman vnd Washington’s Isaiah Stewart.
