Following Duke basketball's 73-48 decimation of unranked Virginia (21-9, 12-7 ACC) in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday, the No. 10 Blue Devils (23-6, 14-4 ACC) are 2-0 across the outings that freshman guard Caleb Foster has missed with the right lower leg injury he sustained during the loss at Wake Forest last weekend.

But that's not to suggest Jon Scheyer's second Duke squad is better off without the former five-star recruit's services.

Averaging 7.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 25.4 minutes per game, Foster is among the team's top ball-handlers. And he's a potentially lethal 3-point weapon on any given night, shooting 40.6 percent beyond the arc for the season.

However, judging by Scheyer's comments to the media after watching sophomore starters Kyle Filipowski, Tyrese Proctor, and Mark Mitchell combine for the bulk of Duke's punishing scoring attack against the defensive-minded Cavaliers, one might now begin to wonder whether Foster returns before season's end.

"There's no way for Monday," Scheyer said about the chance of Foster returning for Duke's ESPN Big Monday battle at unranked NC State. "And I think it's highly unlikely any time soon. We're gonna keep taking it week-to-week and continue to evaluate.

"But he's not out of that boot. He's not able to do anything. It's gonna be some time, still."

Not only does Foster continue to wear the protective boot, but he is also still using a bariatric knee scooter to get around.
