The gothic-script Duke basketball jerseys, a nod to "The Brotherhood" tradition, have been popular for primetime games on the hardwood the past few years. This year, Duke football borrowed the design, debuting the white helmets with blue gothic-style lettering in its season-opening 28-7 upset win at home over Clemson.

And when the No. 17 Blue Devils host No. 11 Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday on ABC — the first ESPN College GameDay appearance in Durham for football — they'll be wearing the blue helmets with white gothic-style lettering for the first time in program history.

Duke football's official account teased the helmets on Thursday with the following post:

Blue Devil graduate cornerback Al Blades Jr. revealed the blue jersey, white pants, and blue helmet for the showdown with Notre Dame and explained the thinking behind the helmet choice.

"I know you guys are wondering what we're going to be wearing this Saturday," he said. "But before we talk about that, can we just take a moment to reflect on what happened a few weeks ago? [Highlights of victory over Clemson and ensuing field-storming] Electric, right? So many great memories that we created together...

"Now, back to the uniforms. We decided if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I didn't say we couldn't tweak it."

Same jersey. Same pants. Similar helmet.

It's fitting. It's another chance for Duke football, looking to improve to 5-0 for the first time in 29 years, to announce its arrival as a threat in front of a national audience.
