Duke Basketball Teammates Lead NBA in January 3-Point Percentage

In this story:
Former Duke basketball one-and-done Gary Trent Jr. had a mediocre start to his 2023-24 campaign beyond the arc. But the Toronto Raptors guard has heated up to the tune of the league's second-best 3-point percentage in January.

On Tuesday night, the 2018 second-rounder tallied 24 points, shooting 6-for-11 from deep in a 118-107 road win over the Chicago Bulls.
With that hot-hand outing, the 25-year-old Trent ended his month with a 50.7 shooting percentage from three. It trails only the 56.6 percent that his 2017-18 Blue Devil teammate, Phoenix Suns guard Grayson Allen, has posted entering his team's final January contest: at the Brooklyn Nets, 8:30 p.m. ET Wednesday.
Of course, it's worth pointing out that Allen's 49.8 percent from three this season ranks No. 1 in the NBA, as the 28-year-old looks to extend the Blue Devils' streak of finishing atop that list following Luke Kennard's back-to-back titles in this department. Meanwhile, Trent's 42.4 percent sits at No. 18 this go-round.

Gary Trent Jr., now a starter alongside Duke basketball talent RJ Barrett with the Raptors (17-30) and averaging 12.0 points per game this season, and Grayson Allen, averaging a career-high 13.2 points as a full-time starter in his first season with the Suns (27-20), are both double-digit scorers for a fourth straight year.
Next up for the Raptors — Barrett has missed two straight games due to knee swelling — is a road bout against the Houston Rockets at 8 p.m. ET Friday.
