Duke Basketball: New Insider Buzz in Ongoing Dylan Harper Sweepstakes

Duke basketball recruiters recently checked in on 2024 guard Dylan Harper again.

The Rivals FutureCast, On3 Recruiting Prediction Prediction, and 247Sports Crystal Ball show Rutgers as the firm frontrunner for Duke basketball target Dylan Harper, who ranks No. 2 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite.

But according to Rivals' Rob Cassidy, the Blue Devils have recently been in New Jersey to see the 6-foot-6, 210-pound combo guard at Don Bosco Prep.

Harper, the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper and younger brother of recent Rutgers star Ron Harper Jr., was in Durham last October for an official Duke basketball visit. There's been no report of a return trip.

However, as Cassidy deduced on Friday morning while at the prestigious Wooten 150 camp in Las Vegas, there's now no telling for sure which way Dylan Harper is leaning in his recruitment or when he'll decide on future visits and, ultimately, a college destination:

"Mum was the word for Dylan Harper on Thursday, as the five-star guard declined interviews amid reports of possible visits to places such as Auburn, Duke, and Kansas. Harper responded by saying, 'I'm chilling and getting better,' when asked about his potential visits before opting out of the interview entirely. He also declined to comment on a timetable for his decision."

He's been down to five finalists since January. They are Duke, Auburn, Kansas, Rutgers, and Indiana.

Cassidy noted Harper might be "up for grabs" and that the race "may include a few twists and turns" from here.

Duke basketball's 2024 efforts have produced three wins. All are small forwards: Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star Darren Harris, Wisconsin Lutheran five-star Kon Knueppel, and North Meck (N.C.) five-star Isaiah Evans.

Meanwhile, Dylan Harper isn't the only heralded senior guard on Jon Scheyer's remaining offer sheet. The other is an upcoming Countdown to Craziness visitor in Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.) five-star VJ Edgecombe.
