In this story:

Last June, Lake Highlands (Texas) shooting guard Tre Johnson was one of a few 2024 prospects to report an early offer from Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer. But in the past few months, there hadn't been much chatter about the Blue Devils still expressing considerable interest in the 6-foot-5, 180-pound five-star.

So the fact that Johnson did not include Duke among his six finalists on Monday afternoon shouldn't come as much of a surprise.

Johnson, who ranks No. 1 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, told On3's Joe Tipton that he's only considering Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, and Texas from here on out. The heralded sharpshooter and athletic playmaker had roughly two dozen offers, primarily from high-major programs.

Although he's eyeing a decision before Peach Jam in July, the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Tre Johnson remains empty.

Meanwhile, the Duke basketball recruiters appear active in trying to land a commitment from the player who ranks one spot below Johnson in the class. That talent is Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) five-star combo guard Dylan Harper, the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper.

Harper has been down to five finalists since late January: Auburn, Duke, Indiana, Kansas, and Rutgers.

And the Blue Devils already boast commitments from two top-shelf shooters on the 2024 recruiting trail in Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star small forward Darren Harris and North Meck (N.C.) five-star small forward Isaiah Evans.

If the roster turnover in Durham following next season is as low as this go-round, then it's reasonable to think that Scheyer might need to reel in only one or two more 2024 prizes.

Four undecided 2024 recruits boast Duke offers and haven't publicly eliminated the Blue Devils from contention.
