Five-Star Duke Basketball Recruit Says He 'Might Not Sign Early'

In this story:
The Duke basketball recruiters' pursuit of Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) five-star senior Dylan Harper, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound combo guard who ranks No. 2 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite and is the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, might continue for several more months.
At this weekend's USA Basketball National Junior Team Minicamp in Colorado, Dylan Harper told 247Sports' Travis Branham that he doesn't plan to trim his list of finalists (Duke, Kansas, Auburn, Rutgers, Indiana) before announcing his decision.
As for when to expect that decision, Harper suggested to On3's Jamie Shaw that it could be a while.
"I don't have a commitment date in mind yet," he explained to Shaw, adding that he may take an official visit next week to home-state hopeful Rutgers, where his older brother, Ron Harper Jr., recently developed into an NBA talent. "I might not sign early [during the November signing period]. Really, it's all going to be based on when I feel the time is right."
Dylan Harper checked out the Blue Devils on an official visit last October. He appreciates the way Jon Scheyer and his staff encourage their perimeter weapons to shine.
"I think they definitely let their guards go," the crafty lefthanded playmaker noted to Shaw. "You can see previous years, people like RJ Barrett, Jayson Tatum, Zion [Williamson]...They really let their star players go and control the game."

While the Blue Devils do not look like the frontrunner — and haven't for some time now, as many insiders have been forecasting Rutgers to prevail for months — perhaps it's best not to count the recruiting powerhouse out until the top-shelf recruit has publicly done so himself.
As things stand, Duke basketball has three heralded 2024 commits, all small forwards: five-star Isaiah Evans, five-star Kon Knueppel, and four-star Darren Harris.
