Duke Basketball Target Survives Two Team USA Roster Cuts

In this story:
As arguably the No. 1 recruit in the 2024 class, long-time Duke basketball offer holder Dylan Harper's likely inclusion on the USA U19 National Team should be no surprise. Even so, it would be an impressive feat for the 6-foot-5, 180-pound crafty five-star, given the competition for 12 roster spots includes rising college sophomores.

And as of Wednesday afternoon, according to a tweet from national recruiting insider Andrew Slater, Harper is among the 14 finalists following a second round of cuts. Ian Jackson, Asa Newell, and former Duke target Tre Johnson are the only other rising high school seniors on the list.

The training camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., leading up to the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup in Hungary (June 24–July 2), began on Sunday with 30 players.
Second-year Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer was on hand that day, presumably with most of his attention on the camp's only current Blue Devil target in Harper, who attends Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) and is the son of former five-time NBA champion Ron Harper.
As for Dylan Harper's recruitment, Duke has been one of his five finalists for months. The others are Auburn, Indiana, Kansas, and the program many believe is now the frontrunner, Rutgers, where his brother, Ron Harper Jr., developed into a versatile talent before earning a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors last year.

While the Blue Devils are by no means out of the race, as evident in Scheyer's trip to Colorado and a 247Sports Crystal Ball pick still favoring Duke, at least one insider now sees the staff in Durham running in third place behind Rutgers and Indiana as the beyond-his-years gifted playmaker potentially nears a decision.
