In this story:

There's probably zero chance that the Duke basketball staff will prevail in the Tyler Betsey sweepstakes. After all, the St. Thomas More (Conn.) small forward canceled his scheduled official visit with the Blue Devils earlier this month, just days before it was slated to begin, and he didn't reschedule.

Granted, the Blue Devils, who entered the race with an offer last November, remain among the seven finalists that the 6-foot-8, 185-pound four-star named in early August. The others are Alabama, Cincinnati, Creighton, Indiana, UConn, and Villanova.

But now, he is about a week away from revealing his decision. On Thursday afternoon, Betsey, who ranks No. 32 overall and No. 1 in his state on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, posted that his announcement is set for Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. ET from Windsor High School, where his prep career began.

Tyler Betsey has taken official visits to Alabama, Cincinnati, Creighton, Indiana, and UConn.

Although the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Betsey's recruitment still sits empty, the flurry of insider picks in the Rivals FutureCast this week suggests Cincinnati has emerged as the overwhelming favorite heading down the homestretch.

Meanwhile, Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff already boast commitments from two 2024 five-star talents and one four-star, all with similar size and skills to Betsey.

Those future Blue Devils are North Meck (N.C.) five-star small forward Isaiah Evans, Wisconsin Lutheran five-star small forward Kon Knueppel, and Paul VI Catholic (Va.) four-star small forward Darren Harris.

That's not to mention that Duke has several remaining prime 2024 targets at or near Betsey's position, including the No. 1 overall prospect, Montverde Academy (Fla.) five-star phenom Cooper Flagg.
