In this story:

What The First Academy (Fla.) point guard Mikel Brown Jr. lacks in size, he more than makes up for with lightning speed and stellar instincts. And as of Friday, according to a tweet from Pro Insight, the 6-foot, 160-pound five-star is hearing from the Duke basketball staff.

Brown, who ranks No. 2 at his position and No. 13 overall on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, has also reported contact from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, South Carolina, Texas A&M, UCF, UCLA, and Villanova since Thursday's start to the direct-contact period in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

While many of those schools have entered the fray for Brown's services with an offer, there's no word yet of one from Duke basketball head coach Jon Scheyer and his gang.

He is one of a handful of 2025 backcourt prospects who have received calls from the Blue Devils this week. That list includes the top-ranked point guard in the class, five-star Meleek Thomas, who earned an offer from Duke in April.

But as Rivals' Jason Jordan explained earlier in the week, Mikel Brown Jr.'s versatile, electric game — most recently on display for Austin Rivers SE Elite on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit — is of the variety that demands blueblood attention:

"Brown has marksman-like accuracy with a quick trigger and the type of feel that make coaches want to hand over the keys from day one. Brown has great pace and thrives as a playmaker, finding his teammates in optimal scoring positions. He'll need to add strength, but Brown's skill set will keep him a hot commodity in the class."

The 2025 Duke basketball wishlist consists of Thomas, four-star combo guard Cayden Boozer, five-star small forward Cooper Flagg, and five-star power forward Cameron Boozer. Thus far, although it's early, the Blue Devils have yet to secure a commitment from any rising high school juniors.
