Florida enters the bout 3-4 against Pitt all-time. However, in the last contest between the two programs during the 2014 NCAA Tournament, the Gators took down the Panthers, 61-45 in Orlando.
Now, UF gets a chance to even the all-time series.
The Gators are sporting a drastically different lineup from a season ago, holding onto just four players from the roster Todd Golden compiled for his inaugural run as head coach in Gainesville.
Guard Riley Kugel and wing Will Richard lead the unit into battle in 2023-24 as a result, serving as dynamic two-way assets to support UF while the fresh faces mesh.
Acquiring six transfers and two high school prospects, Florida’s retooled every position with hopes of turning the ship around in year two under current leadership.
Guards Zyon Pullin and Walter Clayton Jr. highlight new additions to the backcourt while EJ Jarvis, Micah Handlogtenand Tyrese Samuel makeup the reconstructed frontcourt.
The Gators schedule will put the refurbished squad through several early-seasons tests in the non-conference portion of the schedule, including Pitt, a round-of-32 tournament team in 2022-23. Accordingly, Golden and Co. will quickly learn the aptitude of the unit as it pertains to their goal of reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2020-21 season.
