BREAKING: Florida State Ranked In Top-4 Of Initial College Football Playoff Rankings

The Florida State Seminoles have gotten off to an 8-0 start while being ranked in the top five of the AP Top 25 Poll for nine consecutive weeks. The Seminoles dominated their four opponents in October, winning by a combined score of 159-56.

On Tuesday night, the initial College Football Playoff Rankings were debuted live on ESPN ahead of Week 10. Florida State saw its success recognized by the playoff committee as the program was ranked No. 4 in the country. That means if the postseason began today, the Seminoles would be competing for a national championship.

This is the second-highest selection for the program in the first College Football Playoff Rankings since the metric was created in 2014. The Seminoles were ranked No. 2 in the debut of the poll nine years ago, ultimately finishing at No. 3 before falling short against Oregon in the Rose Bowl to snap a 29-game winning streak.

The top six were made up of No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Michigan, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Washington, and No. 6 Oregon. That means the Seminoles would be matching up with the Buckeyes while the Bulldogs and Wolverines would face off to decide who makes the title game. The Huskies and Ducks would be the first two teams on the outside looking in.

Other notable teams inside the CFP top-25 rankings include No. 14 LSU and No. 13 Louisville. Florida State holds a 45-24 victory over the Tigers.

Outside of their selection in the CFP rankings, Florida State slotted in at No. 4 in the Associated Press poll and Coaches Poll this week. The Seminoles clinched their 50th bowl appearance in program history earlier this month and are one victory away from stamping their appearance in the ACC Championship game for the first time since 2014.

FSU has won 14 consecutive games dating back to last season, the third-longest streak in the nation. The Seminoles have scored at least 30 points throughout the entirety of the stretch. The defense is trending in the right direction as the unit held three consecutive opponents to under 100 passing yards and didn't surrender a passing touchdown in October.

Florida State continues its regular season with a road game against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The Seminoles and Panthers kick off at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN in Acrisure Stadium.
