Five-Star Wide Receiver, FSU Football Target Decommits From Alabama Football
Legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban's retirement could impact the program in more ways than one. As Kalen DeBoer takes over in Tuscaloosa, a growing number of players have entered the transfer portal and recruits are decommitting from the Crimson Tide.
On Sunday evening, five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench announced that he was backing off his pledge to Alabama. He committed to the Crimson Tide back in July in the weeks leading up to his junior season. At the time, he chose the program over Florida State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Penn State.
With Ffrench back on the market, it only makes sense for the Seminoles to make another big push for one of the top prospects in the country. Shortly after the news broke that head coach Mike Norvell was remaining in Tallahassee instead of taking the Alabama job, he met with Ffrench and four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. at their high school in Jacksonville.
Ffrench and Jones Jr. are teammates at Mandarin High School and have developed a connection on and off the field. The duo stood out at Florida State's Elite Camp over the summer. At the time, Jones Jr. discussed why they should continue playing together at the college level with the Seminoles.
"If you want to be coached by the best, he sees the relationship he has here, he's definitely wanted. I feel like this is the place for him - what he wants, his playing style, it's just perfect here," Jones Jr. said to NoleGameday previously.
The Florida native was on campus three times last year, including for Florida State's win against Miami. He also watched the Seminoles take down LSU in Orlando to kick off the year. Ffrench is expected back in town in the near future.
Ffrench is coming off a dominant junior season where he recorded 62 catches for 1,247 yards with 14 touchdowns. He had five games with 100+ yards and four outings where he scored 2+ touchdowns. Jones Jr. completed 183/302 passes (60.6%) for 3,195 yards with 33 touchdowns to seven interceptions while leading his team to a state title appearance. Both players improved on their stats from the previous year.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 11 overall prospect, the No. 3 WR, and the No. 2 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.
Florida State holds the No. 118recruiting class in the 2025 cycle with the pledges of Jones Jr., four-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, and three-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard.
